Meet Our Physical Therapists ........

Dong H. Ko, DPT grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland until he went to college in Michigan.  He received Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Andrews University in 1999, then continued to study further in California. Dr. Ko received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University in 2001. During his study, Dr. Ko actively contributed to the field of physical therapy through his leadership and instructing other PT students in Acute and Rehabilitation Department of Loma Linda Medical Center. 

After graduation, Dr. Ko decided to come back to his hometown in Maryland to practice physical therapy. From 2002 to 2007, Dr.Ko had worked at Access Physical Therapy, which became very successful during his employment by providing quality care and stress-free, enjoyable treatment experience to the patients.  

In addition to working at Access, two Adult Medical Day Care centers had asked Dr. Ko to provide treatments to their clients, in which Dong worked with various ailments associated with elderly population. 

In Decemer 2008, Dr. Ko opened a new office named Synergy Physical Therapy in Maple Lawn community and has been practicing as a lead physical therapist. The practice has grown steadiliy since then, simply through patient's referrals. Additionally, Dr. Ko had the opportunity to work as an Ergonomics Consultant for Ahold (the parent company of Giant Foods) for about a year. 

Dr. Ko's primary focus is on finding new innovative approach to treatment and is dedicated to expanding his knowledge and techniques through continuing education and hands-on training. 

Rachel Lerman, DPT, CSCS completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at New York University in Manhattan, NY. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience from the University of Delaware. In addition to being a licensed Physical Therapist in the State of Maryland, she is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), including the Maryland Chapter and Orthopaedic Section.

Dr. Lerman's clinical experience includes occupational, sports and manual rehabilitation within the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary and integumentary domains, across the lifespan. She is proficient in ergonomic assessment, movement analysis, and has received continuing education in manual techniques, kinesiology taping and neuromuscular reactivation. She is skilled in treating acute and chronic impairments, conditions associated with disuse, overuse, injury, pre and post-operative care. 

With a personal history both as patient and clinician, she believes in a positive, individualized and holistic approach to treatment. This involves a thorough examination of both the underlying cause of your pain, impairment or functional limitations, as well as promotion of interventions that maximize your overall wellness and functional abilities. She strives to educate patients in independent management of their physical health, fitness and mobility.

Additionally, having received training in beginner Pilates mat, and as a NSCA - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Dr. Lerman is equipped to optimally serve her patient's needs to achieve their goals.

Dr. Lerman is from Howard County, MD and is enthusiastic to assist all ability levels within the community to effectively and efficiently: restore, reach and maintain active, independent lifestyles.
